New Recording
Posted: 4/10/08
I'm scheduled to be in the studio working on a new recording in early May and pretty excited about it. Jonathan Sawrie will be my producer so I expect it to be fun and challenging to be working with him again. The song variety will cover a wide spectrum so that, again, will be a challenge that I look forward to. I hope to have it, in it's finished form, by early July. Feel free to keep checking to see if it gets finished any earlier!

In Revival

West Coast Tour with the Melody Boys Quartet
Posted: 3/25/08
I'm really glad to be home but I have to say that I had a wonderful time traveling and filling in with Gerald and the MBQ for their 2008 West Coast Tour. It had been three years since I had seen many of you and you made me feel right at home. Thanks to all who spoke words of encouragement not only to me but to Gerald, Terry and Caleb.

Please continue to pray for my friends, Gerald, Terry and Caleb while they look for the right man to fill the tenor position. I'll be traveling with them during their West Coast tour this year as they continue the search. Come see us!

We're Out West!
Posted: 1/14/08 5:02:50 PM
Yes, Tina, Chloe, Van and I are out west again. We left home on January 3rd and will probably be back home by February 6th or 7th. This trip has stops scheduled in Texas, Arizona and California. Please check the website appearances from time to time and pray for us as we travel. We'd sure appreciate it.

Rockport Gospel Music Festival
Posted: 1/7/08 9:06:31 AM
It's the morning after the festival and I've had time to grab some sleep and collect my thoughts. For the scope and size of the festival, this has to be one of the smoothest run gospel music events I've had the pleasure to be a part of. Gary Howard and crew (which was sizeable) are doing a great job for both, the artists and the audience. I'll have a few pictures posted on my site but I'm sure you'll be able to see more on theirs (www.gospelforce.org/festival.html). I hope to be back next year and I hope you'll make plans to attend.

Filling in with The Melody Boys Quartet
Posted: 10/28/07 3:43:55 PM
Some of you know by now but to all who might be wondering, I am filling in as first tenor for the Melody Boys Quartet during November and December. The dates that I had scheduled and the dates that Gerald had scheduled worked out almost perfectly for this to happen (Thank you 16th Section for moving me up one week!). Gerald is looking for a first tenor as Scott needed to move to North Carolina. You can help! If you know of someone who may be interested, please have them contact Gerald by e-mailing him: gerald@themelodyboysquartet.com. In the meantime, check their website, www.themelodyboysquartet.com, to see where they will be in Nov/Dec and come see us!

Revival Services in Hemet, California
Posted: 10/28/07 3:28:37 PM
I was fortunate indeed to be invited to be a part of the revival services at First Southern Baptist Church in Hemet, California. The choir and congregation received us very enthusiastically. I sat under some of the best preaching I've ever heard from Dr. Rob Zinn throughout the week. Each night was well attended and I did my best to fill all the song requests that were given. Most of all, we were all blessed to witness a moving of the Holy Spirit throughout the week as God's Word was preached to the church and the lost. Please pray for Pastor Rick Patterson and staff as they continue to serve God in Hemet.

Idaho
Posted: 10/19/07 5:35:18 PM
Let's see, Van pronouced it Idako (Eye Da Ko) and Chloe corrected him with Hidao (Hi Da Oh) but they were both saying it correctly by the time we left. I've enjoyed every trip I've ever made to this state. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, and coffee houses on every corner! We were honored to stay with our friends, the Lockers, during our time here. Alex was very patient with Van and we were grateful. It was great to be allowed to return to Rupert Assembly and Jerome Freewill Baptist! A new place we went to was the Christian Center of Hagerman. You really need to sit and listen to Pastor Issac tell you about his Spanish to English struggles over a nice meal at the River Grill!

Nevada
Posted: 10/19/07 5:31:38 PM
This was my first time to sing in Nevada! Pastor Pat and his family had us stay with them in their home and we were treated to a great pot-faith dinner at Spring Creek Baptist Church. We had a wonderful service that evening and met Bro. Paul, the DOM. I hope we'll be back.

Utah
Posted: 10/19/07 5:17:06 PM
Although we didnŐt have any services scheduled, we did plan a stop to see our friends the Wehlings. We stayed at Hill AFB and had supper at The Training Table with Rick, Lori and Michelle. Rick and I were in the Air Force together and it was great to see them again.

Wyoming
Posted: 10/19/07 5:11:11 PM
My goodness, we made quite a pass through the state. We saw Tina's niece, Jennifer in Cheyenne while at Calvary Chapel; Tina's brother, Sandy in Sheridan (First Baptist Church) and Thermopolis (First Baptist Church); loved the Wind River Canyon drive between Thermopolis and Riverton (First Church of the Nazarene); almost found a twin in Casper (Pastor Tom at First Church of the Nazarene); found some folks who love dessert as much as I do in Green River (The Clarksons at First Church of the Nazarene); and, finally, Chloe and Van got to play in some snow in the pass between Laramie and Cheyenne as we headed home! We felt loved and appreciated at each place we were allowed to share our ministry and thank each of you for your part in making our trip so enjoyable.

Heart and Hand Ministries
Posted: 10/19/07 5:11:01 PM
We began our trip to the northwest with a stop in Bethany, Oklahoma where we sang at a fundraiser and annual banquet for Heart and Hand Ministries. What a wonderful evening; we were able to see our friends, Don and Donna Huddleston, and see what great things God is doing through the many volunteers and clients at Heart and Hand Ministries. We have added a link to their website on our LINKS page. Please visit them and donate when you can.

September 2007
Posted: 10/1/07 7:20:36 AM
Wow! September flew by and was over before we knew it! We saw many old friends and made new friends during our Texas trip. This was our first long trip with Chloe and Van and they did great! I'm writing this on October 1st and we head out tomorrow for a three week trip with them (see APPEARANCES Page). We can all use any prayers you have time to squeeze in on our behalf. It was especially nice to see Dena Parnell and Linda Morcom on this trip. Dena was married to Rex Parnell who was the original first tenor for the Melody Boys Quartet for many years and helped form that distinctive sound they had. We were able to stop in Dallas to see Dena as we passed through coming and going and she extended her usual hospitality to us. Tina and I are blessed to know the Parnells and call them friends. Linda was married to songwriter and friend Paul Morcom of Waco. They've both been such encouragers to us and it was a treat to stop and have lunch with Linda on our way home. Please remember some new Texas friends who need prayer, the Mike Kuzenka family and the Roger Vierse family. During this month we also attended a reunion for the Sons of Faith Quartet. I sang in this quartet back in 1983 for about a year and it was GREAT to see Curtis, Willie, Charlie and Lee again as well as the many other men who have been a part of this group for the past 31 years. It was a special night at East Morton Baptist Church in Morton, Mississippi.

Help for September 23rd!
Posted: 8/13/07 6:59:39 PM
I've had a cancellation for Sunday morning, September 23rd and I would appreciate your help in filling it. It falls in my south Texas trip. I'm in Jourdanton, Texas for the evening service which is about 45 miles south of San Antonio. I could be anywhere within 100 miles of Jourdanton for the morning service. If you can help I'd sure appreciate it! Please give me or Shanna a call or e-mail from the information you'll find on the CONTACT page. Thanks!

Welcome Shanna Locker to Mike Franklin Ministries!
Posted: 8/4/07 8:08:59 PM
Tina and I are excited to announce that effective August 1st, 2007, we have an answer to prayer in the person of Shanna Locker. We've been praying for help in the scheduling and managing of our calendar and services for two years and the timing was finally right. I hope that soon you'll not only have spoken to Shanna but, in time, will also get to meet her. We'll soon have her contact information on our "CONTACT" page. Even if you're not calling to schedule us at your church or event, please call Shanna and welcome her to our team!

Wyoming and Idaho Tour

Our Fall tour is all but complete in October. We're actually hitting Wyoming, Utah, Nevada and Idaho and maybe Oklahoma on this trip. We should get back just in time for me to fly back to southern California for a revival service in Hemet. Please keep checking the APPEARANCES page to see what services confirm for the trip. Then make plans to come!

Melody Boys Quartet Spring Concert
Posted: 5/17/07 11:04:57 PM
I thought this was the best one since the '99 50th Anniversary Concert. It all came off smooth. The attendance was good, crowd was great to sing to, sound system was tame - and the singing was wonderful. The current group of Melody Boys have that classic sound and great piano to back them up. Having so many of the "Alumni" there made it special. Very special. I have some photos in my gallery and you can see some different ones at www.themelodyboysquartet.com .

Thoughts on the California Trip
Posted: 2/9/07 5:45:50 PM
Words cannot express the gratitude that Tina and I hold as we recall each leg of our trip. From beginning to end (with the exception of one ruined tire) we had a wonderful time, great services, fine fellowship, and oh the food we ate. We began our trip in west Arkansas with Bro. Eddie Combs, Director of Missions for the Buckner Association. We were privileged to sing at First Baptist Church in Hartford, Arkansas. From there we continued west where we drove through rain, fog, sleet, ice and snow for the next thousand miles. Then the sunshine came out and stayed out for two weeks! We sang in Long Beach, California at Community Grace Brethren, Bro Dale Workman, Pastor (a big man with a tender heart). We were with the Cross Road Quartet and had a time! My old friend, Bob Oliver was co-founder of the quartet and is leaving. In fact, they're rehearsing the new tenor now and as soon as he's ready Bob will hand up his singing suit. You may remember that Bob was the original tenor for Gold City when they began as a professional quartet. Bob and I also sang together in high school in what was our first quartet, the Liberty Four. We'll miss you, Bob. Jerry, Lorene and Becky Roark opened their home to Tina and I. We were able to enjoy their beautiful home in Diamond Bar and appreciate their graciousness. From there we went over to Hemet and visited with Bob and Maxine Glover where we could sing for our supper (and bed and breakfast!). The Camelot is home to some special folk and we look forward to being able to visit with them each year. Bob and Maxine treated us to a tour of Diamond Lake and it was beautiful. It was also a treat to see and visit with Earl and Rita Reynolds of Hemet. They, too are some of the southern gospel singing people in southern California. Once again we were graced with an invitation to spend a day seeing some of the sights and a night visiting with them in their home. We'll get to see them in March here at home when Rita's oldest son, who is a C-130 pilot, will retire from the Air Force at Little Rock Air Force Base. We had a great service at Hemet Church of the Nazarene, Mike Hull, Senior Pastor. Pastor Hull used to be Gerald Williams' pastor when he was in North Little Rock, what a small world. We also enjoyed meeting Associate Pastor Jerry Crouse. Shanna Locker had told us great things about him, and they turned out to be true! We returned (yes, returned) to First Southern Baptist Church in Hemet and Pastor Rick Patterson was still the pastor. It's good to come back to a church and see the same pastor; the expectation level isn't so high for either of us. Great service, fellowship and lunch! Thanks Emmi and Bro. Rick. Can you believe it? We had a return trip to Temple Baptist Church in Hesperia. Now, Bro. Randy has been there for twenty-six years. Do you think they're having trouble getting Baptist preachers to come to the High Desert? And what do you think a good ole boy from Helena, Arkansas is doing way out in the desert of California anyway? I'm not even going to guess but they sure treat us well every time we're out there. I'm looking forward to next year already! I'm requesting y'all to pray for Sandy, his wife 'cause she's doing a wonderful job holding the home and the church together and never letting on about it. We attended an awesome service at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland at the invitation of Bro. Rick Patterson. It was a missionary appointment service by the International Mission Board and it was the first one Tina and I had ever attended. We didn't know what to expect but were blown away by the service. They have six of these a year across the nation. If you ever get the opportunity to go, don't let anything stop you. In Montclair we were with the Tradesmen Quartet at Rock of Life Community Church. You need to get hooked up here because they have a monthly gospel sing. Yep, monthly. Terry Stockman is the man you need to see or talk to. He's built up a great bunch of core folks that are faithful. Join them! Jerry and Lorene took us over to Newport beach and Balboa Island. I've done some dumb things in my time, but there were people in the water. Some of them trying to surf, some just standing around shivering. We did get to see a seal. He seemed a lot more at home in the water. On our way home we stopped in Prescott, Arizona to see some friends that we first met in California and some friends that used to attend church with us in Arkansas. Gordon and Patricia Butler now live in Prescott and Ken, Gina and Ciera Hull live in Cottonwood, Arizona. Since it was Super Bowl Sunday the Red Lobster let us sit for hours and visit. We had a wonderful time. Gordon and Patricia are not going to be any where very long and not be involved in gospel music. He plays and sings (and promotes, sorta) and she smiles and says nice things. It's just always good to see them (and you never know where you may see them!) Ken and Gina led us over the mountain (literally) to Cottonwood and we spent the night there (and visited some more!) before heading east for home. We made it.

You Are An Important Part of Mike Franklin Ministries
Posted: 6/15/06 4:01:16 PM
You are important to us in many ways! I'm taking this space to answer some questions that are posed to us from time to time. How can you be a meaningful part of our ministry? 1- PRAY for us - specifically for guidance, wisdom, availability and discipline. 2- Have Tina and I come to your church and present our program. 3- Help spread our name, address, telephone number and web site address to others and other churches. 4-You can help financially; the needs are many: Printing, postage, recording, computer/software, travel, etc. Whether you can help once or regularly, it is much needed and greatly appreciated. Tina and I feel led to go where we are invited on a love-offering basis and never want any church to feel they can't afford to have us come.
